Remnant: From the Ashes is a third-person action game and we’ve noticed many people comparing it to Dark Souls. Why is this? In the gaming world, when it comes to a game that is challenging, it’s common to compare it to Dark Souls. This is a comparison that is over-used, but in this case, the comparison is legit, because Remnant: From the Ashes truly is a challenge.
The Story and Character Customization
If you like games that are set in a post-apocalyptic world, then you’re going to fall in love with this one – here, humanity is close to becoming extinct.
When you first start out, you will have the ability to customize your character. From there, you will need to choose from one of the three classes and start your adventure.
Something that makes Remnant: From Ashes stand out from the crowd is the fact that the environment has been randomized. What this means is that what you experience may be different from what others encounter. For each playthrough, the dungeons, choices, buildings, and mini-bosses drastically change. So basically, when you set out on your adventure, you’re setting out on your very own adventure like no other.
This is the type of game that relies on online co-op and due to this, you may have played join your sessions. It’s always fun when another player joins in on a session because that’s when we discover that our new teammates completed different missions and took on different bosses.
For example, the last time we played Remnant, we had one teammate that was taking on infected trees, while the other one was taking out the Mad Merchant.
The way you play this game will all depend on the class you choose. You will either be using midrange guns, long-range guns, or close-quarters guns. The melee combat system is a tad bit on the dull side, the gunplay is where the fun is.
There was another Xbox One title, Immortal: Unchained that tried to do something similar to Remnant, but the poor moving and shooting mechanics ruined that game. Remnant: From the ashes features precise aiming, which is what gamers look for. Apart from this, there’s also the Mod System, which allows you to add fire damage as well as other attributes to your weapons.
Exploration plays a major role in this game – while you’re playing it, you’ll find yourself breaking open every crate and chest to get crafting materials. You can also find coveted items from fallen enemies. If you find yourself having a hard time surviving the world, grind resources for a couple of hours and upgrade your weapons and armor.
All in all, Remnant: From the Ashes is a game that is worth picking up – there’s so much you can do, and with a flawless combat system, you can’t go wrong.
